Ayahuasca in Itacaré: How to Participate in a Ceremony

Itacaré, on the coast of Bahia, Brazil, is known for its remarkable natural environment, preserved Atlantic Forest and different paths of self-discovery.

Among those who come to the region, some are looking for an Ayahuasca ceremony in Itacaré or an opportunity to experience forest medicines in a responsible setting.

Before choosing where to participate, however, it is important to understand how the experience is approached, how participants are prepared and what kind of support is offered.

At Casa Cura, experiences are personally facilitated by Fernando Di Grazia, therapist and guardian of the space, with an approach centred on self-discovery, presence and integration.

What Is Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca is a traditional Amazonian brew with a long history of ceremonial and spiritual use among Indigenous peoples of the Amazon.

Different traditions work with Ayahuasca in different ways, and the context in which the medicine is experienced can be an important part of the journey.

Experiences can vary considerably from person to person. Some people encounter emotions, memories, recurring patterns or new perspectives on aspects of their lives. Others may experience periods of introspection, contemplation or strong physical and emotional sensations.

There is no single experience that everyone should expect.

Ayahuasca Experiences at Casa Cura

Casa Cura is located in Itacaré, Bahia, surrounded by the Atlantic Forest.

The approach is personal and attentive, creating space for each participant to experience their own process without trying to determine beforehand what the journey should be.

Preparation, clear communication, safety screening and integration are considered important parts of the experience.

Before participating, each person completes an anamnesis, providing relevant information about their health history, medications and current circumstances.

There is also an opportunity to talk about the person's intentions, questions and expectations before the experience.

Preparation and Intention

Preparing for an Ayahuasca ceremony involves more than physical preparation.

It can also be an opportunity to ask yourself:

Why am I seeking this experience at this moment in my life?

Some people arrive with a clear question. Others are going through a transition, experiencing recurring patterns or simply feel called to look more deeply within themselves.

An intention does not determine what will happen during the ceremony. Instead, it can provide a starting point for the experience.

During the Ceremony

During an Ayahuasca ceremony, the role of the facilitator is to hold and support the space while respecting each person's individual process and boundaries.

Music, silence, meditation, breathwork or other practices may be present depending on the context of the experience.

At Casa Cura, forest medicines such as Rapé and Sananga may also be part of the work when appropriate and with the participant's consent.

The intention is not to create a predetermined experience, but to provide a setting where the person can explore what emerges with presence and awareness.

The Importance of Integration

An Ayahuasca experience does not necessarily end when the ceremony finishes.

Insights, emotions and questions may continue to unfold during the following days and weeks.

Integration is the process of looking at what was experienced and exploring how it relates to everyday life.

Rather than simply seeking an extraordinary experience, the deeper question can become:

What do I do with what I have seen, felt or understood?

Ayahuasca and Self-Discovery in Itacaré

The natural environment surrounding Itacaré can offer a particular setting for slowing down and turning attention inward.

Casa Cura was created as a space for self-discovery, presence and reconnection surrounded by nature.

The work is not based on promising a particular outcome from Ayahuasca. Each experience is individual, and each person remains responsible for their own journey and the choices that follow it.
